The European industry depends on resilient supply chains. Within the funded project Semiconductor-X, a consortium of 30 partners is developing a concept for interoperable data exchange in the semiconductor industry. The project also serves as the security reference for the broader Manufacturing-X program, which spans key sectors of German industry, including automotive, aerospace, chemicals, energy, and mechanical engineering.
Data exchange in this context is highly sensitive: intellectual property and manufacturing data represent billions in value. While the initiative has so far been strongly driven by data space architects, it is now essential to actively involve the security community. Our goal is to transform security from a perceived “blocker” into a true “enabler.”
This project group aims to jointly define a future-proof, end-to-end security concept for industrial data spaces. The outcome will serve as a blueprint for secure digital collaboration across industries. Addressing this challenge is critical for Europe: without standardized, highly secure, and cost-effective data exchange, European industry cannot achieve the resilience and sovereignty required in a disaggregated global economy.
